Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction 8-week Class

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is an evidence-based 8-week program for helping you reduce physical and emotional pain and suffering.  This is achieved by learning about and training the mind.  Mind training through consistent present moment awareness allows you to keep your attention in the present instead of being lost in memories, or anticipating unknown outcomes in the future.  It helps you to see where pain and suffering is exacerbated by our own patterns of behavior and how we perceive our experiences.

What you will learn

In this course you will learn about:

  • The foundations of mindfulness
  • How stress affects you physically and emotionally
  • How perception affects our reality and drives behavior
  • Formal meditations – Sitting meditation; Lying down yoga; Standing yoga; the Body Scan; Walking meditation
  • Effective communication
  • How to respond skillfully instead of react unskillfully to stressful situations
  • How to take better care of yourself

Class Logistics

Classes are held one night a week for two and a half hours per night, for eight weeks. Additionally, there is an “all-day” (9am – 4pm) silent retreat on a Saturday, held during the fifth or sixth week of class.  Please check your schedule before registering. We understand that life happens and some absences may be unavoidable.  However, if you know going in that you will miss more than two classes it is not recommended that you participate at this time.  Choose a time where you will be able to miss no more than two classes.  Consistency and commitment are essential for this learning.

Participants in this MBSR program must be at least 18 years old.  Additionally, there are some situations that will preclude participation and those are discussed in the class orientation.  The class orientation is mandatory for participation.  You may watch the orientation HERE.

Fees, Deposits, and Refunds

The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course is based on a sliding scale, $195 – $395 for the 8-weeks and includes supplies, guided meditations for home use, and a workbook.  No one will be turned away due to an inability to pay.  If you would like to apply for a scholarship, contact me.  Otherwise, please pay at the highest level you are able to allow as many as possible to attend.  A $100 deposit is required at the time of registration to hold your space in the class and will be applied to the total amount.  You can pay the deposit via credit card using the secure payment system below.  The balance will be due prior to the first class unless other arrangements have been made.  In some cases, the class fee may be split into two to four payments.

The deposit will be refunded in full if after the orientation, and before the first class, you decide that the class is not for you.  If you start the program and drop out within the first three weeks, you will be entitled to a 50% refund.  Dropouts after the third week of class will not be refunded.  However, you may choose to re-enroll in another session and apply those funds to another class within the year.
